The first batch of 10-year residence visas have been granted to winners and finalists of the Mohammed bin Rashid Medal for Scientific Distinction. Twenty scientists were issued the long-term visas in line with the UAE Cabinet decision to adopt a new entry visa system announced in November 2018. Refer to our previous blog post from June 2018 when the initial decision was first made public:

Under the new system talented individuals in the fields of medicine, science, research and technical field, as well as culture and arts are among those that may be eligible for the long-term visas. There are also provisions for investors and outstanding students who will be eligible for either 5 or 10-year residence visas.
The moves are part of the UAE’s strategy to capture talent, facilitate business, attract investment, and create an environment that facilitates sustainable growth. The country’s leaders are determined to diversify business form oil and build a knowledge economy that is competitive at a global level. These moves are expected to have a positive impact on local investment and employment.
